Review of the Pax Christi Concert

Review of the Pax Christi Concert

Pax Christi Chorale, a community choir from Toronto, gave a concert in St.Mary’s on 30th July conducted by Stephanie Martin an Associate Professor at York University,Toronto. This was as part of their Tour Of England which started on 22nd July.
T
he choir processed in singing Tallis’ ‘If Ye Love Me’ and then sang a well chosen mixture of secular and religious pieces by European and Canadian composers, producing a very pleasing sound.
As well as singing a piece by their conductor, the choir also sang ‘Epitaph for Moonlight’ by the Canadian composer R.Murray Schafer. This was not sung from a traditional score but from sheets of instructions showing chromatic swoops for the various voices. The resulting sound was interesting and ethereal.
Overall, a very good and well received concert by sadly, a fairly small audience.
A retiring collection raised approx.£138.00.
On 31st July, the choir sang the morning and evening services at Gloucester Cathedral.
