Preparing for the soup run

St Mary’s PCC provides soup and food to the needy on Saturday evenings throughout the year.

Volunteers meet in the church kitchen at six o’ clock on Saturdays to brew up vegetable soup, coffee and make cheese and ham sandwiches. Then between 7 and 7.30, they distribute this food together with biscuits at a site by the exit from the Waitrose car park.

A team from St Thomas Church is responsible alternate Saturdays and St Thomas’s pays half the cost of the supplies – approximately £850 per annum. St Mary’s pays its share from collections and donations.
